do re mi...

This new "toy" was waiting for Louise in the mailbox yesterday on making it home from our annual trek to an amazing music festival in the Berry. We spent the weekend amongst instrument makers, musicians and dancers from all over Europe, and Louise had the chance to try out a few real accordeons (half-size, but still worth a small fortune) at the luthiers' stands.
This 28€ toy is actually in tune and will allow her to see whether this interest is whim or a true calling. Instead of pattering into our room in the morning as she always does, she ran straight to her accordeon on waking this morning. We will see...
In any case, we are just glad the girls share our enthusiasm about music festivals. Even Camille, who is adamantly non-musical, loves the arts&crafts activities offered for kids each afternoon. Gilles waltzed and mazurkaed his way through three straight nights, while I soaked up the day-time ambiance: amazing sessions happening under almost every tree, so many warm and interesting faces that could have climbed right out of a big book of tales, delicious cheesy crêpes at a covered wagon-café, terrible jokes and good conversation back at the camp with the long-time festival-goers who have adopted us the past two years, and falling asleep to lovely lilting airs...

Did some weeding in the garden and then went to feed the chickens and there he was: the little bit of sunshine, so happy, so alive,
singing along, out to discover the big world.

It's just a little chicken but it made my day and filled my heart with the little bit of light that was missing.

back to everyday life

School is out for the summer, and the kids in the neighborhood have been busy playing school with all the notebooks they hauled home the last day.

I am at work, attempting to concentrate here in my nook, while Gilles hammers away in the background, laying the floor for Camille's future bedroom. There's been swimming and weeding and picnics, drowsy buzzy bugs and faded poppies, lemonade, peaches and cherries, afternoons with all the shutters closed up tight to keep the house cool, and long lazy evenings outside...
