that's amore...

By evening, the dough had risen, the sauce had simmered, and it was time to express oneself through pizza making... This was truly an inspired process, lots of fun in a runaway train kind of way, and full of surprises.

Such as the string of paper lanterns catching fire (Gilles found this hilarious), and the oven peel breaking just as the first pizzas were looking ready to come out (yikes!!). Luckily, a ready team of handymen made a speedy repair, and the pizzas were saved in time, though at least one ended up a calzone.
It turns out that there is quite a knack to being a pizzaiolo. Different people took turns in the oven, and while I think a few pizzas that went in never came out, there was at least no human injury.
The pizzas had to be personalized of course, to avoid confusion after baking (see photo #3) and there were so many that night had fallen before the baking finished off with a batch of quiches and tarts as only the French can do... The last word, yummy!!! Definitely something we will try again. Bellies full, we all sprawled out under the stars to watch movies on a sheet against the barn wall.
