After the holidays, we all jumped in the train and headed to Germany to feast on blintzes and little breads and visit with my old college roommate - Lynette. Here we are visiting the dragon's castle in a foresty area near Köln, along the Rhine. We hiked a little, and ate a lot at the very inviting "Milk Hut" where mounds of thick whipped cream come with almost everything.
Köln has a renowned zoo
where we spent one afternoon. The animals looked happy and well-adpated. The elephants were amazing - while the adults munched on apples and large tubers, the kid elephants played "soccer" with a foam ball. I had never seen a giraffe before - so graceful and friendly. One licked a man on the face and gave C little smooch. L wanted a giraffe kiss more than anything, but I was a little wary of letting her get too close, which she's still mad at me about.
